Ingredients
  • 1 boneless grilling steak, such as rib-eye or strip loin, ½ in. (3.5 cm) thick
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) minced jalapeno
  • 1 garlic clove, minced, or 1 tsp (5 mL) bottled chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) granulated sugar
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
  1. Bring steak to room temperature. Oil grill and heat barbecue to medium-high. Squeeze about 1 tbsp (15 mL) of lime juice into a small bowl. Stir in fish sauce, jalapeno, garlic and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Add onion.
  2. In another small bowl, stir oyster sauce with oil and pepper. Brush all over steak. Barbecue, uncovered, from 5 to 7 min per side for medium-rare. Brush often with any remaining oyster-sauce mixture.
  3. Remove steak to a cutting board and let stand 5 min. Then slice and drizzle with jalapeno sauce. Great with noodles or salad.
