Mom/s buns

Mom/s buns

This is Mom's original bun recipe that she learned from her Mother (Grandma Hein) who probably learned it from her Mother..... Mom used only white flour, but you can substitute whole wheat flour to make it more "heart healthy"
Ingredients
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp margarine (non-hydrogenated is best)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Stir above ingredients together until the sugar dissolves.. While it is cooling mix
  • ½ cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • When this has frothed and the above mixture has cooled a bit add the two mixtures together along with 2 eggs.
Instructions
  1. Stir in flour until it reaches a dough state. Never did measure how much flour was used. Just keep adding and mixing until you think it is dough.
  2. Put it somewhere warm until it doubles in volume.
  3. Cut it into small cubes and knead and shape into buns and place in pie pans.
  4. Let it rise again until it doubles again and then bake at 325 until top browns just slightly.
  5. Remove from oven and whisk tops lightly with margarine
